CTP devises plan to ensure smooth traffic flow

 

CTO, trade organisations agree to close U-turns near Kohati Bazar and Naz Cinema 

 

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police and trade organisations on Thursday agreed over a plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic on all the roads and to discourage encroachments which cause inconvenience to motorists as well as visitors.

 

A traders’ delegation led by Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran President Shahid Ghafoor Paracha called on Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Shah and discussed the ways and means to improve the existing traffic system and removing the encroachments along the roads.

 

During the meeting, both the sides agreed to close U-turns near Kohati Bazar and Naz Cinema at the busiest Murree Road, aimed at getting maximum benefit of recently built flyovers at Sixth Road and Chandani Chowk. It will provide an uninterrupted journey to motorists from Chandani Chowk to Liaquat Bagh.

 

The plan will be implemented soon after getting formal approval from the quarters concerned and taking all stakeholders into confidence.

 

Under the strategy, there will be a complete ban on entry of heavy vehicles in the city during day time.

 

Speaking on the meeting, CTO Ishtiaq Shah appraised the delegation that the Punjab government has given him a free-hand to achieve the task of resolving traffic problems. “No interference from any quarter will be tolerated in this regard,” he said.

 

He said loading-vehicles, encroachments, public transports, illegal terminals and stops are the main reasons behind the traffic mess being witnessed at all the roads especially in inner areas of the city.

 

Shah regretted that city district government built a parking plaza for public transport at Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazzar but it is useless as the contract to collect the parking fee was not awarded judiciously.

 

Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran President Shahid Ghafoor Paracha said the trade organisations have no link with encroachers. He said trader community would appreciate any operation launched across-the-board to purge the city from encroachments. It would also fully cooperate with the traffic police in maintaining good traffic system in the town.

 

In connection with parking, vehicles and motorcycles on Mall Road and Murree Road has been banned.

 

According to the sources, the lifter would remain present on the Mall Road and Murree Road to pick up the wrongly parked vehicles.

 

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah also issued the directives to take strict action against underage drivers and impound their vehicles and motorcycles.

 

He also directed the police officers to challan the vehicles with green number plates if the driver violates the traffic rules. AGENCIES
