Wardens and motorists visiting the traffic sectors for clearing their tickets suffer unhealthy and poor working conditions.
Mr Chaudhry said the plan to build a three-room (two additional bathrooms) sector had been materialised after the collapse of South Cantonment police station in 2011 which left 250 motorcycles damaged.
The CTO said one room would be for the duty officer, another for record-keeping and the third one to deal with ticketing. Visitors would have a waiting room and washrooms in the new building.
He said after demolishing old structures, new buildings were being built in police stations of North Cantonment, South Cantonment, Garhi Shahu, Old Anarkali, Green Town, Township, Kot Lakhpat and Mughalpura.
In addition, buildings of three new sectors would also be constructed in three other city locations.
He said each sector would also have a parking lot for impounded vehicles and motorcycles. He said funds would be utilised from the lifter head after the orders of the Lahore High Court regarding the use of account for the welfare of wardens, and standard operating procedures issued by the Punjab inspector general to use money from the head.

IGP for modern technology to fight organised crimes
LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khan Baig has said that there is a dire need to equip the police with latest technology since the criminals are changing their modus operandi in the present era.
A comprehensive strategy is being finalized to provide training to the police officers and officials on modern lines in order to enable them to deal with the cyber crimes and professional criminals as well.
Khan Baig stated this while addressing Police Darbar at the Sheikhupura Police Lines on Wednesday. RPO Sheikhupura Abu Bakar Khuda Bakhsh, DPO Sheikhupura Hamayun Bashir Tarar, DPO Nankana Sahib Muntazir Mehdi, DPO Kasur Muhammad Saleem, and SP Special Branch Sheikhupura Region Najib Akram Maan, were also present on this occasion besides many other police officers ad officials.
The provincial police officer said that as the world has become a global village because of the media expansion, the criminals are also adopting similar tactics by using modern methods. The IGP further said that the concept of policing had been changed and the police would have to tackle serious challenges including terrorism and sectarianism simultaneously. The expansion of housing societies in the big cities, growing population, and social unrest has multiplied the responsibilities of the police, the IGP added. Therefore, the police should get ready for 24 hours to cope with any serious and emergent situation at any time and at any place.
Khan Baig also urged the police officers to help the department change the general perception about the police since many officers and officials laid down their lives while fighting against terrorism and criminals. The IGP said that the police would have to prove that those who put their lives at risk to maintain peace in the society should never be labeled as dishonest and inefficient. The IGP also directed the officers to help resolve the genuine grievances of the public at police station level.
The provincial police officer also listened to the problems being faced by policemen and issued on the spot orders of the redressal of their grievances. The IGP also announced the restoration of weekly day-off in the Sheikhupura region. The IGP also awarded Rs100000 to a policeman from the police welfare fund for his medical treatment. Khan Baig also reduced the judicial duty period for the policemen from six months to four months. The provincial police chief also gave cheques of three million rupees, from the Punjab government and the police welfare fund, for the family of a martyred police official, Laiqat Watto, who died while fighting against the criminals. On this occasion, Khan Baig also distributed cash prizes worth Rs 245,000 among the officers and officials for showing tremendous performance.

Experts slam govt’s financial measures
KARACHI: Recent economic and financial measures taken by government don’t give a promising picture of Pakistan’s economic future. Government’s reluctance in taking drastic and revolutionary steps is the major hurdle in the way of improving country’s economy.
Renowned economist Dr Shahid Hasan Siddiqui expressed these views while addressing a seminar on ‘How Pakistan can successfully deal with its economic challenges?’ organised by Department of International Relations University of Karachi, here on Thursday.
Pointing out the huge budget deficit, he asserted that if government is able to collect even the 50 percent of the tax potential of this country, then our major economic problems could easily be solved. He further said that the roots of current economic malaise are not only bad economic policies but it has much to do with the political culture of the country. This elitist political culture is the main reason behind all the socio-economic problems.
He predicted that this current IMF package is bound to fail like the previous packages. That is because of unwillingness of government to bring substantive changes in fiscal and monetary policy. He mentioned the election manifesto of PML (N) and said that none of the promises were fulfilled in this year’s budget.
Siddiqui criticised IMF for implementing imperialist agenda of US in developing countries. Those policies are meant for weakening domestic sector by imposing unreasonable conditions, which don’t reflect the socio-economic realities of the target country. He recommended dealing with energy crisis on emergency basis by relying on indigenous resources. Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar of Department of International Relations said in his concluding remarks that our politicians should get rid of VVIP
culture and lead the nation by example. staff report

Police arrest 130 suspects in 94 raids

KARACHI: Power given to the Rrangers raised several questions; meanwhile police conducted at least 94 raids in various localities of the metropolis and arrested about 130 suspects during 24 hours.
As per details, the Federal cabinet on Wednesday gave approval for an operation by Rangers against criminal elements in Karachi, with the support of police.
The federal, military and police agencies have identified criminals in hundreds of lists for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.
The power given to the Rangers raised several question about their performance, who have been failing to clam down the situation in Karachi for the past 25 years.
During the past few years, Rangers personnel have also been involved in the killings of innocent citizens. On June 4 this year, Rangers killed Ghulam Haider, who failed to stop his car; on July 16, Rangers shot Murid Abbas, a taxi driver, in front of his four-year-old son.
These acts by Rangers not only damaged the reputation of an institution designed to protect people and property but also created a sense of insecurity at large.
Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Rizwan Akhtar presided over the first meeting of the operational committee held at Rangers Headquarters in the city. Inspector General of Sindh Police and the representatives of intelligence agencies also attended the meeting.
Following the handover of power to Rangers, a meeting was held at Rangers headquarters where they finalised the strategy for initiating targeted operations across the city against criminals.
Sources confirmed that Rangers made lists of criminal elements at local level. It was said that no political clout or pressure will be tolerated in connection with the arrests. The major no-go areas were Manghopir, Kati Pahari and Lyari, where the groups of gangs are operational and involved in crimes, including targeted killing, kidnapping and extortion.
The Rangers initiated a crackdown against criminal elements from Wednesday night after the meeting.
According to sources, raids were conducted in various localities and several suspects were detained, who were later shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
Meanwhile, police also cracked down against criminals and conducted at least 94-targeted raids and operations across the city, detaining around 130 suspects. The officials also claimed to have recovered huge caches of weapons, ammunition, drugs, and six tennis ball bombs from the possession of suspects.

Two held for demanding Rs1m from revenue man
GUJRAT, Sept 5: Police on Thursday arrested three people for allegedly demanding extortion money from a revenue official and hurling threats at him.
District Police Officer Ali Nasir Rizvi told reporters at a news conference in Police Lines that the accused, Muhammad Akram of Kashmir Pura locality and Muntazir Abbas of Nut Tiba, a dismissed clerk of Gujrat DCO office, had made threatening calls to Gardawar Riaz Gujjar and demanded one million rupees from the revenue official.
Mr Rizvi said Lalamusa Sadar police had arrested the both accused who during investigation revealed they were being backed by two fugitives -- Muhammad Nawaz and Mazhar Iqbal -- wanted in connection with a triple-murder committed in Lalamusa back in 2008.
The DPO said the police raided various locations in Gujrat city and arrested a notorious outlaw, Mazhar Iqbal, who was involved in extortion.
Earlier, the DPO presented two accused -- Abid Hussain of Julliani and Rashid Hussain of Bhand Garan, Kharian tehsil, before the media, saying they were involved in making threatening calls to a good number of traders and demanding hefty amounts from them. He said three different cases had been registered against the both accused in two police stations of the city.
He said Abid used to make threatening calls and his accomplice Rashid would provide different SIMS to him registered in the name of fake subscribers.
The DPO stressed the need for making the SIM registration process foolproof. He said the system had various flaws which were exploited by the outlaws.
